Kusawa Territorial Park
A perfect introduction to the Yukon’s alpine
Breathtaking vistas of rugged mountains, brilliant lakes, and alpine tundra make this a hiker’s paradise.
Climb into a floatplane just minutes from Whitehorse and take off toward the rugged mountains of Kusawa Territorial Park. After touching down on a stunning high alpine lake, we’ll set out on foot, exploring winding valleys and sweeping ridgelines while keeping an eye out for sheep, moose, grizzlies, and caribou in their natural habitat.
We’ll begin the journey with an interpretive walk along the Yukon River, guided by an Indigenous interpreter who will share the history and stories of Yukon First Nations. From there, our floatplane carries us deep into the Land, where we’ll spend several days hiking through alpine and boreal landscapes, camping beside pristine lakes, and soaking in the peace of true mountain solitude. The adventure ends with a relaxed evening on a sandy lakeshore as we await our floatplane pickup.
This moderately challenging trip offers a genuine Yukon backcountry experience, accessible to both new and seasoned hikers.
Located within the Traditional Lands of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, and Carcross/Tagish First Nation.
